Stealth Speed Boat

Posted by Notcot on Sep 20, 2012 in Gadgets
Stealth Speed Boat

It may be Stealth in name but it’s far from stealth in nature as this twin motor speed boat screams along at an astonishing 30kmh! This big sexy black beast is 73cm long and all power. Unlike the petrol driven pro-RC models that take hours of tinkering with for just a few moments of enjoyment the Stealth Speed Boat will dash round your local pond at ludicrous speeds for up to half an hour from a single charge – no doubt terrorising all and sundry and leaving all other RCs (and quite a few ducks) floundering pathetically in its wake. The twin motors make steering amazingly responsive (it’ll turn on a dime) and a clever safety feature ensures that the props won’t spin when they’re out of the water – so you won’t be picking your fingers out of the pond. We’ve already said how fast it is but have we really got that across? Because even though we knew it was fast we had no idea what ‘really fast’ actually looked like until we saw this thing go. Heck if it had wings it would have taken off and the local hot shot ducks were depressed enough already without giving them even more of an inferiority complex. Of course aside from shaming the local wildfowl there was the sweet enjoyment of watching the RC nuts with their £100 boats turning green with envy and sulking over their thermoses.

Pandigital Photo Scanner

Posted by Notcot on Jul 2, 2012 in Gadgets
Pandigital Photo Scanner

There’s no doubt about it the PC has successfully taken over our lives (in a good way – not like HAL out of 2001. That would be terrifying.) especially when it comes to photography. It may be the digital age but what are you expected to do with all of your old photos? The Pandigital Photo Scanner gives you an alternative to chucking your well loved photos in a box destined to become another dusty loft feature. Scanning your 4×6 glossies is now easier than ever. Attempting to scan them on a flat bed scanner can become rather tiresome especially when you have to spend a good minute lining them up so they don’t show up wonky on your computer (wonky is a perfectly acceptable technical term). With the Pandigital you just slip the pic into the photo sheath (included) and then feed it into the tiny scanner. Simple as. Your photo will then be saved onto a media card that you can then transfer to your Digital Photo Frame or store for safe keeping. You can even hook it up to your PC if all you want to do is create a digital replica of the image. It can be nice having a hard copy of a photograph but over time the photo fades the dust starts to settle and before you know it your trip to the zoo is a yellow fazed shadow. With the Pandigital scanner you can make sure the image stays as fresh as the picture in your head.

Gossip Girl – Book 1

Gossip Girl - Book 1

Age-range: 14+ ‘Welcome to New York City’s Upper East Side where my friends and I live and go to school and play and sleep – sometimes with each other. We’re smart we’ve inherited classic good looks and we know how to party. It’s a luxe life but someone’s got to live it.’ The Gossip Girl series is the ultimate in glamour and cool – set in New York’s glamorous Upper East Side the narrative follows the thrills and spills (with Jimmy Choo shoes and shopping at Barneys mixed in along the way) of its richest and most beautiful teenage residents. ‘Gossip Girl’ is the ultimate in sophistication scandal and luxury – in fact if Carrie Bradshaw of ‘Sex and the City’ had a younger sister there is no doubt she would be ‘Gossip Girl’! Publisher’s Weekly is quoted: ‘Gossip Girl has the effect of gossip itself – once you enter it’s hard to extract yourself; teens will devour this whole’. We will be publishing the series at regular intervals throughout 2003 with a high profile energetic and suitably cutting-edge marketing campaign. This deliciously catty and engrossing series will be the spicy vanguard for Bloomsbury pushing the bundaries into young adult fiction.

ZaggBud Noise Cancelling Headphones

Posted by Notcot on Oct 29, 2010 in Gadgets
ZaggBud Noise Cancelling Headphones

How many calls have you missed because you’ve been listening to music when your iPhone rings? If you’re anything like us, then it’s probably quite a few (even if we only get calls from the bank). With these ZaggBud Noise Cancelling Headphones, you can not only control the volume, but also answer the phone when it rings – problem solved. Using the neat in-line controller, forget about missing important calls just because you were paying too much attention to the guitar solo in ‘Stairway To Heaven’. They’re compatible with the iPhone and iPhone 3G, so when that call does come in, all you have to do is click a button on the control and talk. The built-in noise-cancelling microphone will pick up whatever it is that you have to say (how can I pay off an overdraft if you charge me for it?! and other such platitudes, no doubt), and then click it again to hang up. Of course, it’s essential that the sound quality is excellent too, and it is. The 10mm speakers in the headphones deliver a whopping sound and, thanks to the comfortable ‘bud’ style, there’s very little chance of them popping out if you have to run for the bus. And did we mention that they’re noise-cancelling? Speaking of comfort, the cord (which is surprisingly tangle-resistant) features multiple sliders so you can arrange it to come around the back of your neck rather than flop around in front of you. Even though these are designed to work with iPhones, they’re also great for any other devices that have 3.5mm headphone jacks. So next time you’re rummaging desperately in your pocket to turn your music off because your phone’s ringing, think of the hassle you could save with the ZaggBuds.

Kymera Wand – Magic Wand as seen on Dragons Den

Posted by Notcot on Aug 26, 2010 in Electronics, Gadgets, Home Cinema & Video, Peripherals & Accessories

Kymera Wand - 'Magic Wand' as seen on Dragons Den

It’s just the thing that Harry Potter could use while watching TV at Hogwarts – a wand that changes channels or turns down the volume at the flick of a wrist.

And this buttonless remote control certainly seems to have magic properties because it has just attracted the largest investment in the history of Dragons’ Den, BBC2’s entrepreneurial reality series.

Entrepreneurs Chris Barnardo and Richard Blakesley accepted a £200,000 offer from tough-talking Duncan Bannatyne for their Kymera Wand on the hit show. – Dail Mail

If you or your precious offspring are obsessed with a certain bespectacled boy wizard, you’ll no-doubt already have wands lying about the house. This one, however, is totally different to anything you will have waggled before – it can control the telly. In fact, it can control most things that require a remote control, making its wielder appear to be able to perform some pretty incredible leisure-orientated magic tricks, and you won’t even need to spout gibberish spells to do it.

After you’ve learnt the basics (it takes a few practice sweeps to get the hang of it), you’ll be able to programme your wand to control the volume, channel, brightness or whatever your remote can do. A turning motion (it’s all in the wrist) will control the volume, a sweep up or down will move the channel forward or back a step, and even double-tapping on the side will perform whatever you assign it. In all there are 13 different swooshes, sweeps and swoops to learn, and each one can be given a separate task to complete. All you have to do is put your wand into ‘learning mode’ by giving it a quick tap on the shaft, perform the move you want, and then press the corresponding key on your remote – the wand remembers it and performs it next time you do the same move.

It’s difficult to emphasise how much fun this is, and how cool the effect is when you’re merrily commanding all and sundry around you. The Hi-Fi, the TV, the computer, the lights (if you’re fancy enough to have remote control lights), anything that needs flicking on or off in the room can be controlled by a wave of your wand. Indeed, if you’re even slightly interested in anything vaguely wizard-related then you owe it to yourself to get one of these – great fun, ingenious technology and an impressive effect. Top it off with a beautiful faux-dragonskin box with Chinese silk inlay and you’ve got a superb little package, perfect for the wannabe wizard in your life.

Features:

  • The Wand Remote Control allows you to control remote devices with a swish.
  • Most devices that use a remote control can be manipulated with the wand – TVs, Hi-Fis etc.
  • Can control multiple devices, not limited to one.
  • 13 commands in total can be learned by the Wand.
  • Programme the wand by putting it in learning mode, performing an action and pressing the corresponding key on the remote control.
  • Learns via infrared codes from remote control.
  • Comes packaged in its own beautifully decorated case.
  • Please note: instructions for the wand are only available in English.
