I bought a 4GB one of these for my 6 year old daughter and, at first, I thought it would be too dificult for her to understand, so I didn’t give her the instructions, which were poor. Fiften minutes after opening it on Christmas morning, she had worked out how to use it herself with no assistance. Because she had no instructions, she just started exploring the menus herself and had managed to load music on and play it much to my amusement. After a bit of coaching from me, we had converted her CD collection to MP3 format and loaded it on to the player for her (it has to be converted to MP3 format first – we downloaded a program from the internet called FREERIP which was a dawdle to use).

Her best friend got an Apple iPod which is three or four times the price of this item and, as it was only meant to be a stocking filler, I couldn’t justify spending so much. However, they can’t tell them apart and she hasn’t put it down since Christmas – no other gift has captured her imagination for so long. She has discovered music in a big way now. The sound quality for such a cheap item is breathtaking.

I would give it 5 stars for quality, 5 stars for ease of use and 5 stars for value (more if I could), however, the instructions are basic at best.

So I bought myself the 8GB version which works perfectly in the ipod dock in my stereo system meaning I can play about 1800 tracks in the comfort of my sitting room without having to use earphones. The sound reproduction is impressive.

Great player, really easy to use and good sound quality. It came with headphones, computer cable, mains charger and silicon case all of which worked well. I was worried about converting videos to the .amv format but the software included is easy to use. It took half an hour to put the entire scrubs season 6 on the player!

I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a cheaper alternative to the apple ipod.

This item would not work at all. It would not charge up or record and data.I returned it to JSM, and I have received a full refund.

I needed a MP3 player for my new stereo (30 pin dock) and car radio and this seemed to fit the bill both feature and price wise. There are some pluses but more minuses.

Firstly there are no instructions you are on your own. Previous experience is essential!

There is a small CD with some programmes but what it is for is anyones guess there is no read-me programme.Often the buttons (pause, skip and menu) have a mind of their own. The FM radio doesn’t work in my area although all my other radios do. You can’t shuffle the tracks into a playable order (they play alphabetically by title). The menu is a bit iffy and not self explanatory. The power save/sleep function is not explained or achievable.

I have a large CD collection and the WAV/MP3 conversion process is long drawn out using freerip software(seperate download via google). Vinyl conversion is even longer. Although computer literate I have not yet figured out all the other functions (video etc) due to the lack of instructions.

The pluses are of course the price which is very good value, the sound quality, the 30 pin docking facility, the small size, the storage capacity, the USB flash drive loading, USB battery charging and the supplier JSM. My first unit packed up after a couple of weeks and they replaced it by courier.

If you don’t expect too much this is good for the price.

Don’t even bother, bought this for a kid and it had a mind of its own, freezing and not playing a full mp4 before switching onto something else, we was sent a 16gb instead of the 8gb and still didn’t make us happy. Rubbish
