I had a look round before deciding to purchase the Acer Aspire 5551. I’ve had it for a week now and i’m not dissapointed with this laptop, infact i’m very happy with it. In particular the screen. I bought it to view movies and the picture quality on this LED backlet screen is just wonderful with very deep colours and no lag.

Windows 7 is easier to navigate than it’s grumpy predecessor and the graphics for games are vibrant. I’m a real fan of sid meier’s civ and it plays it, stores it and loads it quickly and effortlessly.

The battery is OK, lasts about 3 hours plus. I tend to use my laptop at home so no big deal for me but would not of purchased this laptop if i needed to travel with it. Alot of laptops on the market with 6 hours plus battery life.

Another great feature is the HDMI connection. This enables you to plug your laptop directly into an HDMI enabled TV. It basically makes your TV into a huge computer screen, perfect for watching movies, playing poker and other games as well as social networking sites. This is a really great feature !

Haven’t used the webcam so unfortunately can’t comment on that feature just yet.

Overall very happy with my new laptop, hard to find a fault with it. The price I paid was £379 from amazon and for that price I don’t think you’ll find anything currently better value on the market.

oh, i have found a fault! it doesn’t come with any back up disks (i.e win 7)- so you’ll need to make your own – a little cheap i think!

I wanted a simple to use home computer for emails and internet access. I bought the product because it was recommended by other purchasers. Amazon can usually be relied on to offer good products at competitive prices.

I had read that the touch pad has a life of its own and is over sensitive. This is true, though most of the time it’s manageable. More problematic are the click left and right buttons. These make a clunking sound and do not operate smoothly. Very plastic feel to them.

It boots up quickly and I’m finding my way around gradually.

My previous Dell Inspiron was far better finished and had a definite (silent) set of buttons and I think it was a better made machine overall.

Satisfied but only just.

For a relatively low spec machine it does the job. I bought it for my Mum who’s in here 70s and never had a computer before. With family around the globe, this laptop does enough for her to be able to keep in touch. It has enough speed and memory for the photos she’s now getting that she is a happy little bunny. 3 x 320 is quite adequate for basic functions of mail, skype, faceache etc, as well having storage to suit a relatively small budget

I agree with what Michael has said

it is a nice looking computer, not too heavy, pretty good battery life, 4 hours of web surfing and stuff with multiple windows open, however if you use it at home you can use the high performance setting which drains the battery more.

fulfills my needs. the keyboard is quite firm, not like the soft bouncy one on most toshibas, similar to the one on vaios.

the webcam is pretty good. it boots nice and quickly. comes with windows 7 which is a nice fast system. generally quicker than vista, has some neat visual touches aswell, although i’m not one of those vista bashers, lol

if you’re looking to for a good all around laptop, but you are NOT interested in playing computer games on your laptop, buy this.

it has no integrated graphics card and it’s processor is not top of the range

it’s a nice laptop. but vaio screens are better in terms of viewing angles. if you want the best, go for a vaio or a macbook

BUT if you wanna spend less than 500 quid, go for an acer 5551. note, there is a newer version with a better processor and more ram, so you might wanna check that one out, however i bought the above product at […], at the current price it is even better value for money.

peace……………….

after looking around at loads of laptops we decided to get this one , it arrived on time, well packaged and is fine, the only problem is that the product number is completely wrong and we cannot find from Acer what the number should be therefore restricting the programmes we can use that are automatically programmed into the computer. Amazon was great, its Acer that has let us down, I have now emailed them 3 times and no reply has come back.

its a shame because the laptop itself is very good and I would highly recommend it to anyone, but be warned about Acer and contacting them !
