I have been looking for a new case since I upgraded to a simple Panasonic Lumix a while back.

The gaudy “sock” style protectors don’t flick my switches; most of the decent leather cases seem overpriced; zips worry me i.e. they could cause scratches.

To my amazement this Amazon “Basics” case ticks all my boxes.

The velcro belt loop is strong and adjustable to fit different belt widths. With a flip over cover I feel happy that my camera is well protected from drops etc.

Although it is a magnetic popper/catch on the flip cover, this does click shut pretty firmly – quite like some of my wife’s purses with magnetic catches and she hasn’t had problems with those.

At either side of the case top the camera’s own wrist strap will be easily accessible, so you don’t need a strap on the case itself.

Inside there is a suede type lining which will help prevent scratches, and although the memory card pouch is not really practical, I doubt that will be an issue for most users.

It is a snug fit for my little Lumix, but a good fit. Not so tight I will struggle to get the camera out, nor so big that the camera will fall easily out. You would have to check your own camera dimensions, but at least with Amazon you have the distance selling regs and excellent customer care to protect you.

Finally, the leather itself is of decent quality with what appears to be secure stitching (only time will show whether it stands up to normal wear and tear) and the black colour is a sensible choice by Amazon.

The most important thing for me about a point-and-shoot camera is having it ready to hand – no photographs otherwise. I need a case that protects it when I drop it (which I do, sometimes), and that lets me get the camera out quickly and put it away quickly. I also want something that doesn’t add bulk, because if I’m carrying the camera or have it in my pocket, I’m more likely to get the photo when an opportunity turns up. This does the job.

It’s nice quality leather – similar to Krussel. Inside suede should protect the screen. The magnetic catch means easy to open: long flap on front means camera isn’t likely to fall out. The small inside pouch for spare memory card looks as if it would push into the camera if used – not an issue for me, I rarely fill the 8Gb card I use. Most of the camera is covered: this won’t guarantee safety if dropped, but will give it a fighting chance.

Note: the description at the moment mentions “This camera case’s convenient wrist strap” – it doesn’t have one (at least, the one I got doesn’t), it has a hole to pass the camera’s wrist strap through. This works fine, so long as you have the strap on your camera.

I have a Canon IXUS 95is: this case fits well. It’s not quite as snug as custom made, but very close – quite happy with fit.

I wouldn’t want to trust the belt attachment: it’s a flap that attaches with velco, and looks as if it would simply pull out if you pushed against something. I don’t want to wear this on my belt, so not a problem for me, but if you do, you might want something more robust. For me, good bit of kit, job done.

Ideal little case for a canon camera, it is well made and feels very durable. It also looks high quality. And it comes with an Amazon basics warranty … good stuff from Amazon!

I was very pleased with this leather camera case for Canon digital cameras. It is made from soft hide with a textured material inside which won’t scratch the camera and carries the Amazon logo on the clasp. There is also a useful pocket inside for a spare camera card, a magnetic clasp popper to close the case and useful velcro belt loop on the back. To prove the versatility of the case, it more than adequately protects a Phillips MP3 player allowing the earphone cable to come out of the top of the case or from the side of the flap which folds over. Hence, if I am not taking my camera out with me, I can use the case to carry my MP3 player and listen to music. A true bargain!

this is a good quality case which will hold most small cameras and mp3 players.

although it says leather it does not smell like it.

too thick for a pocket, more suitable for a handbag.

unless you want to use the builders velcro belt loop, very 1990’s.

i do not like the fixed metal badge which says amazon basics.

many people would not want others to know it was cheap.

amazon’s frustration free packaging includes half a metre of cardboard!
