Have used a Pearl for about 2 years. Was previously resistant to the lure of Blackberrys but gave in and am now an avid convert. How would I manage without it at work?

It is similar sized to standard mobile phones but has more keys and a better screen. Synchronisation with MS Outlook works well. I have used my phone for mainly e-mail, probably sending about up to 20 messages a day from the Pearl. After practice, quite long e-mails are easy. As the device is compact, it is usable to type e-mails whilst walking, using the thumb of the hand holding the phone (briefcase in other hand!). Much easier to type than texting on a normal mobile phone. My main gripe, and the reason I have upgraded the phone is the predictive text facility. Due to each key representing two characters, this facility attempts to form words whilst you hammer away at the key pad. A lot of the time it gets the words right. However, a lot of the time it is downright annoying and time-consuming to form the words you want rather than what it wants. The camera and media player seem quite good, which is a bonus as they were not high priority in choosing this device.

I am in the process of upgrading to a Blackberry 8900 with a full keyboard which will overcome my main niggle with the Pearl. The 8900 is bigger though and will be less convenient to carry in a trouser or shirt pocket.

Overall, if you want a mobile e-mail device which is smaller than a traditional Blackberry, the Pearl is an invaluable tool.

Believe me, I think I must have used most mobile on the market some time or the other. Okay that’s an exaggeration the does feel like it as I get through two mobiles a year. I currently use and I find and this Blackberry Pearl. If you compare the iPhone with a Blackberry Pearl the Blackberry Pearl wins hands down, though the Blackberry Pearl is for business use, I tend to use it more for both personal and business use of then I use the iPhone. It is compact and has stacks of useful features with one or two eccentric featres like the rollball and the two letters to each button making texting a bit taxing but pretty easy after a bit of practice.

I find the phone quick to start up ie within 20 seconds. On start it shows my unread emails from my business, BT and Mac accounts and text messages. Brilliant. Excellent programmes including diary, camera phone with flash, e-mail, web browsing, mp3 player, video, picture gallery alarm etc and to be honest I can’t fault it. It is small enough to but my trouser pocket and walk round without an unsightly bulge. I must admit I’m not into bulky phones.

I note that quite a few people do not seem to like this phone but I work on the basis that you need to read the manual, learn the features and have a phone for at least a few months then make a decision. I think I am justified in giving this phone a rave review and I am currently due upgrade to my mobile and I have decided not to upgrade my iPhone to the new version but I will certainly consider upgrading my Blackberry to the next level.

Was looking for a telep[hone which would enable me to get on line easily, send and retrieve email all at a reasonable price.

The product performs well. I retrieve email online because the device only supports direct email through a Blackberry Server. I have found it easy to use, it is smaller than other Blackberry devices and so fits into my pocket easily.

Got one of these a a few months ago to replace my LG. What a waste. All the problems listed below are based on using it as a standard mobile phone and not the blackberry features it has.

Poor sound quality, speaker phone distorts, cannot vibrate and ring the same time, battery cover keeps sliding off, crashes once a month, no automatic key lock, takes ages to startup, screen back light goes into standby when on a long call, qwerty keys to small to type anything properly, camera quality low, glossy plastic scratches easily, getting use to the numberic keys takes time, text on keys too small, unable to sync anymore etc..

Also trying to use the internet on O2, you must have a blackberry addon which costs £10 per month on a 12 month contract. Without this you will not be able to send any service books to the mobile (update settings).

They only good feature is the trackball and voice commands.

Dam, just killed any chances of me getting rid of this phone on Amazon!!!

Whilst I agree with some of the comments made in the other reviews eg it does crash the odd time but switch if off and on again and it is fine, qwerty keyboard suretype takes a while to get used to, folder playing of music means you have to set your folders up to play what you want, camera is not fantastic at night. However, it has a music player, decent camera in good light and amazing access to all your outlook features which synchronise automatically during the day. I use it as my sole MP3 player and also to run my outlook calendar, notes and e-mail. I really don’t know what I would do without it (and won’t be selling it on Amazon or elsewhere!)
