This is an example of you get what you pay for …. if you want a quality printer this is not the cheapest. However this does all that Canon claim for it the print quality is excellent and the printer itself is well built and does look the part. It was of course easy to set up and has a good array of software with it. The Canon Easy Web Print is quite is useful little addition although of course it has nothing to do with the printer quality as such. If you are after a combination of print/slide scanning and printing I can recommend the Canon combination of this printer and the Canon Scan 8800F. CanoScan 8800F Film Scanner. You will not be disappointed with the results as they are professional looking – which is important if you have gone to the trouble of scanning in old pictures you want the best output to do them justice. If you are not so worried about the final picture quality then you can buy a much cheaper printer than this. Incidentally I have not yet tried printing directly onto a DVD disc yet but that looks easy as it has a custom holder to line it all up – which when you have spent many frustrating hours trying to get perfectly aligned DVD/CD labels on to discs is a brilliant feature and worth the extra cost as well!

There are one or two negative reviews of the iP4600 printer here and I almost decided not to buy it.

I looked at the reasons for the negative reviews and saw they fell into two areas – installation time and ink.

The installation time is quite long, but you only install once and the process is clear and easy. Inks may seem expensive, but they are, from most manufacturers for their printers. I never use 3rd party inks because it is quality I want, not cheapness. I’ve tried 3rd party inks ages ago and they compromised the printer at the time, both mechanically, and qualitywise.

The quality of prints from this printer – stunning.

Twin paper feeds make life really easy. Small, neat, good looking printer

In short, Canon quality.

I’m so pleased I decided to buy it. An outstanding printer.

It arrived 24 hours after ordering it. Brilliant service too, from Amazon.

I’ve had this printer for a month now and I’m pleased with it. I’ve had the two previous models that it replaced and that covers a time period of four years. On both occasions I’ve had to change because of the failure of the nozzle unit blockage and the rather high price of these items. Talking quality of the photo production – absolutely top marks and the print speed of an A4 is quite acceptable. Hasten to add that I’m still using the carts that the printer came with but hopefully, there won’t be any deterioration when using the cheaper compats. Haven’t got used to the two paper pots being the other way round to the previous printer and I feel that this is a backward step. Let me explain. Paper is loaded into the top rear as is usual with most printers but with the IP4700, this is exclusively used for quality photo papers. This means that your photo paper will be ‘hanging’ around and exposed if you leave paper in it (which I do!).

The other paper feed is by a cassette drawer situated at the front bottom. This elaborate cassette houses the standard text A4 paper fully enclosed and hidden from view. I’m sure that most of us would be using a larger amount of ordinary paper than photo paper and thus the greater protection should be given to photographic stock as was the case with previous printers. Having said that, it really is the only slight dissapointment that I have and I’ll get used to it !

Amazon supplied it at a great price. It was out of the box and up and running in less than twenty minutes. Congrats to both Canon and Amazon, a great pair.

I’ve had an Epson photo printer for many years. Pretty good quality, but slow – and if you don’t use it for a while you have to waste a lot of ink and time cleaning the nozzles. I was thinking of a very much more expensive Epson photo printer, but reviews say that although their prints are stunning, nozzle clogging is still a problem and the inks quite expensive (especially since there are extra colours). So I thought I’d try the Canon iP4700, but I was worried by the relatively low price (shop around) and not having more than the basic colours. What a nice surprise! It’s fast, and the print quality is very good. Of course genuine Canon ink and paper are expensive, and that’s how they make a profit. I might try other types of paper, but will stay with Canon ink – I don’t want my prints to fade or to compromise print quality. (I do ordinary b&w printing on a cheap monochrome laser printer.) I just did some A4 prints of photos I took at a concert – the colours are excellent and the black backdrop is jet black. Canon’s printing software for Macs was also a pleasant surprise – works well and is quick and easy to use for a variety of standard formats.

Used to print off 70 calendars on high quality double sided photo paper. My Epson Stylus S20 could not handle this paper. The photographs were of excellent quality provided that either Canon inks or Moreinks ink was used. Drop below this and the quality of print drops.

The low in warning on the Moreinks cartridges sometimes does not change to expired ink so a print can be ruined. Keep a watch on the print run at this stage of low ink warning.

The double sided printing facility for print is excellent.

For the price one of the best dedicated printers on the market.
