I’ve had a number of different laptops, but this si looking like the best. Nice looking machine, fast for all office stuff, uesful HP support tools. I managed to trash the build within 24 hours trying to rearrange the disk partitions & user profile areas (to push data to the D: drive). HP telephone support were simply brilliant – even though it was a Saturday – replacement restore disks arrived with in the week. This was a good choice both in terms of the machine its self and the manufacturer.

Good key board and the built in web cam deliveres a good image too.

Just bought this- it’s superb. It effortlessly went online, great typing keyboard… quiet… fast… and it’s solidly built- looks like it’ll last a long time. Really good value for money on Amazon right now- a lot of the cheaper ones have no hdmi socket and this is the best in terms of value for money (hard drive, 5-in-one card slot, its speed, great big screen size etc). Quick buy one as they go fast on Amazon when there’s a good deal.

I’ve gotta say that this laptop is both great for use of professional tools like Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Premiere and gaming, as well as office stuff (Microsoft Office or Open Office). I am very satisfied with it and if I’ll have a chance, I’ll recommend it to my friends.

Having previously owned a Compaq Presario for about 5 years and been VERY pleased with it, when I needed a faster machine (more RAM) to Skype I really wanted another Compaq. I consulted Which? and various computer magazines. Despite recommendations for much more expensive machines I eventually opted for the Compaq. I am so pleased with it. It is fast and reliable. It looks good. It does all that I need it to do. Skyping family abroad is wonderful – the camera and microphones are excellent for Skype. It was very reasonably priced and, I think, represents excellent value for money.

I received my Compaq yesterday and was generally impressed – it must have been built very recently, since it declared itself ready to work without hours of downloading Windows updates first! It has a good specification for the price, including Lightscribe, which I like – to say it comes with a generous selection of software is a bit of an exaggeration, there’s a trial version of MS Office, likewise Norton antivirus, apparently no MS Works – but none of this matters to me as I already have 4 other computers in my company.

Two little niggles – I bought this computer to be my main workhorse in my home office (I replace the main computer regularly every 3 to 3.5 years, even if it’s working OK), so I will not be carrying it about. The lid/screen has a flimsier feel than my other computers (HP/Toshiba) – if I were to carry it about, I’d get an aluminium case rather than a fabric one, as I don’t think the Compaq would like to be exposed to twisting forces. Second niggle (and illustration of the principle that there’s no such thing as a free lunch) – the computer comes with a normal 6-cell battery which is claimed to be good for up to 6 hours’ operation. I note that the on-board speakers are relatively quiet, in fact they would be audible only if I had the computer no more than a metre or so away in a quiet environment – as I have plug-in USB speakers, it’s not a problem, but the volume level is obviously a victim of efforts to cut power consumption. In short (as I said earlier) – a great choice for the price!

PS: On closer inspection, the machine doesn’t have Lightscribe but does have Works!
