I bought this item new for £15, it comes with a USB extension cable and driver installation DVD. The instructions are a little hard to follow, but with perseverance everything was installed within 20 minutes. The cables attached to the unit mirror those on your VHS or TV (ie female connectors) so you’ll need some of the standard male-to-male cables that are provided free with most digital video equipment (or an S-video cable). I recorded a 2-minute clip on my first attempt. The programme ran smoothly on a 1.5ghz Acer laptop with 750 RAM. The provided editing suite isn’t `professional’ standard but perfectly suited to my needs…. and for £15 I’m more than happy.

I wanted to convert video to DVD, which I have managed – after a fashion. I have a DVD burner on a Vista laptop, so it made sense to use it to capture the video here too. However, I have tried everything I can think of to make it work but Vista and this product (and software) seem to be incompatible.

I eventually succeeded in capturing it to my XP laptop (after finding the right SCART cable), saving the file to a large separate hardrive and connecting the Vista laptop to the hardrive.

I then used the bundled software on the Vista laptop (not the software with EasyCap) to burn the DVD.

Bit of a palaver, though.

It doesn’t work! We tried it on 3 different pc’s and laptops and it wouldn’t let us to install drivers, either faulty cd or just all fake product. Very disappointed. I bought it for my dad so he can archive his old video tapes into dvd’s but just wasted money and everybody’s time. Shame on you people.

Tried this with both laptop and desktop pc. Never been able to get it work, non-existent customer support and instructions are no help.

There was a small cable and plug

But with Vista it had such a bug

Through testing and pain

Bare bones manual won’t explain

so I gave up and drank me a jug.
