A cult classic! Ralph Bakshi’s animated adaptation of Robert Crumb’s comic strip character. Sex, drugs and violence aplenty as we follow Fritz’s adventures throught the swinging ’60s. A must-have for the discerning collector.

This is a good fun look at “hippy culture”. Many 60s stereotypes are included. The main charater bungles his way from one lay to another via brushes with drugs, police and black culture. It is still relevant today as each generation questions the values of their parents.

boy was this talked about at the time, there was a supply of american graphic cartoon mags around in the early ’70’s featuring the works of Crumb and others. featuring anti heroes such as Mr Clear, pin head characters*and some unpc and distasteful types. this film was shown as a double with “Heavy Traffic” made a lasting image for the times for those who were teens and twenties in the 70’s.
* pin heads see the film “freaks” made in the 30′ banned for many years in england and finally shown late in the 80’s on CH4. well someone must have paid good money to see the film in the 30’s.

If you’ve seen it before and you like it, then fine. If not, then chances are you’ll be disappointed. The transfer to DVD is pretty basic, although somebody’s taken the trouble to split it into chapters, which is worthwhile as the stories are often fairly unconnected.
The original stories by Robert Crumb had much more content, humour and style, and many films of the 60’s are far better than this animated effort.
