After owning this camera for only a day, I’m really impressed. Thanks to the auto features, I was taking photos within minutes – something I wasn’t expecting after seeing all the buttons. Although I’m still learning the ropes, I’ve been really pleased with most of the shots I’ve taken – especially when using the macro & super macro features. The face recognition feature is quite good too – and very accurate when detecting blink shots.

However, there were a few things that disappointed me: it doesn’t come with a case(to be expected I guess) and the strap isn’t very impressive. This being said, my biggest disappointment was the software that’s supplied on the CD. It is terrible! During installation, my firewall identified it as some sort of browser hijack software (probably a false positive – but who knows). Once installed, it crashed because of compatibility issues with Vista; it was still unstable after downloading the updates for Vista. So, if you buy this camera, don’t touch the software that comes with it. Download Google’s Picasa 3 – it’s awesome, free, and easy to use.

Overall, and despite my disappointments, this is very good camera. The build quality of the camera is solid; the photo quality is excellent too. Because of this, I can’t resist giving this camera 5 stars.

I bought this camera to replace a 2005 model Fuji S5500. Some useful features have gone (manual focus, for example) but the 2500HD can, as the name suggests, take HD video. It’s not the greatest quality video but it’s perfectly adequate given that this is really a stills camera. Zooming in and out creates a lot of noise on the audio though.

No complaints at all about the camera’s capabilities with regards to photographs. The 18X optical zoom works well, as does the image stabilization. The 16:9 format is handy for creating photos for your Windows desktop and the more normal 4:3 and 3:2 formats are also available.

For some reason i had a problem when using a Sandisk 16GB card. When taking HD video, the camera would only take about 30 seconds worth of video before stopping itself. I sent the camera back to Fuji and they returned it with a Fuji 16GB card installed. This works perfectly! I am not the first person to have this problem but as Fuji have supplied me with a free 16GB card I’m not going to complain too much. So, beware of buying anything other than a fuji 16GB card. Sandisk 8GB cards work fine, by the way.

Overall, an excellent camera.

I deliberated between 3 cameras for a month (fuji s2500hd, fuji s200exr and panasonic fz38)

Each had its own pro’s and con’s.

In the end i knocked it down to both of the fuji’s;

The s2500hd because of its features, zoom and hd video,

the s200exr purely because of the image quality.

In the end i decided that although the image quality was not the same as the s200exr, the fact the s2500hd is a newer camera, with alot more features, a better zoom and between £60-£100 keeper made it the better buy.

Firstly after opening the box

The camera is light even with the sd card and batteries, its a desent build – slightly plasticy but aesthetically pleasing.

The view screen is brilliant – big and clear!

The camera has a quick startup and can be setup within seconds.

After having a mess with the different settings and functions, i have to say i do like the scene recognition mode, although i will probably always set my own.

The zoom is quick and easy to use.

Facial detection works very well.

Other camera functions that i like;

smile detection surprisingly works very well, no longer do you have to press quickly to get a smiling shot, the camera detects when a person is smiling and takes the shot for you!

Blink warning is a nice function – it tells you take to take the image again because someone blinked.

Mulitple zoomed shots in one click – take one shot and the camera takes 3 in stepped zooms.

Here’s my problem;

Firstly you dont get a hd lead

Secondly although the hd video quality is good theirs a really annoying background noise throughout,

i could understand some noise if i was zooming.

I read that the s2000hd had the same problem, but a forum user recons by turning off the auto focus the problem would be solved – however it didnt!

Yes the video is only a novelty and i’ll be mainly using it as a camera, but simple problems like this shouldnt be their.

After a week of taking test shots, i would say the quality and digital noise is very good, possible abit soft, although a quick unsharp mask in photoshop solves the problem.

Day photoshop is sharp, colours are good, nighttime better than other digital cameras i have used although like most you can see more digital noise.

Pro’s

* Lightweight and small

* Long range zoom

* Optical image stabilization

* Smile detection

* Blink detection

* Scene recognition

* Multiple zoomed shots in one

* Panaromic image creator

* 12mb good enough for upto A3 prints.

Con’s

* HD video noise

* No hd video lead included

After owning this camera for a few days now I can easily say this was worth the money.

Packaging was just fine.

Build quality (while the plastic in parts does cheapen the feel somewhat) is very nice. It’s very easy on the eyes, both the camera itself and the LCD. Has a good weight to it, isn’t too light.

The pictures are top quality. Even zoomed in quite far I was able to take photos without any noticable noise or pixelation.

Fairly easy to use for a novice.

Just a couple things I was dissapointed with:

Shooting in HD using movie mode with a Sandisk SDHC 16GB card only allows you to record for around 30seconds. A number of people have reported having this problem. Fuji’s site says it should record for upto 15mins. Doesn’t appear to be a memory card problem having tried it with several others. Most likely a software issue. Hopefully they’ll put out some firmware for it.

Seems to chew up batteries quite fast (Rechargables). Definitely reccomend bringing an extra set or two if you’re going out for a day of shooting.

Zooming in and out is very loud. Coupled with the sub-par microphone, doesn’t make for great audio when recording movies.

Gets 4 stars from me. Nice bit of kit!

Purchased this camera before going on holiday. I was really impressed with the automatic functions and the zoom was very effective. The picture quality is perfect for my needs – I’m no expert but I did take a lot of pictures with it. I found that when I wanted to dabble with specific settings, the menu and dial selector were easy to use and worked very well. Having read other reviews I was expecting the batteries to die very quickly so I was pleasantly surprised at how long they did last – over 500 still pictures with a couple of videos (over a minute each) and lots of playing with the zoom thrown in. I really liked the view finder – I prefer using this over the LCD when taking pictures – especially in sun light.

Finally excellent service from Amazon – they sorted out a problem with the courier (courier at fault – not Amazon) promptly and without any hassle. Thank you Amazon!
