I purchased one of these for the Mother-in-Law who likes to travel alot. She wanted it mainly for pedestrian use as she doesn’t drive. It arrived and I decided to have a quick play with it. Its brilliant. Clear Screen, clear directions, easy to use (especially for someone not technologically inclined). The only slight downside seems to be the battery life which is approx 2.5hrs from full to empty which should be fine for wondering around an unknown city.

I got to try out most of the features. I was most impressed with the fact it comes with a car mount (which includes cradle and charger) along with a TMC traffic receiver which plugs into a port on the side of the car mount and also the voice commands are great for hands-free destination setting (however my mother-in-law is Scottish and it had a little issue with her accent).

I would thoroughly recommend this Sat Nav…so much so I’m trying to convince my other half to get me one :-D

A very nice bit of kit. Screen is very large and clear and easy to adjust. It’s slimline (8mm) and very easy to carry with you. I like the pedestrian capability making it easy to continue on foot. There are numerous other features such as eco routes, fuel consumption calculations and voice activation. I used it first for a trip to Birmingham and it took me direct to the door. The photos as you approach a junction are helpful too. I have used it en-route to Ostend in Belgium and it was fine. I like the ability to flip from mls. to km. making it easy to stay within the speed limit whichever country you are in. It could do with a clip-on hood or cowel to prevent reflection on the screen. May be an accessory but I find Garmin’s website overly tedious to use. The cable is a bit of a monster but you get used to it. One concern is that it runs very hot whether on the power cord or battery. Has anyone else found this? Some roads are wrong e.g. it tells me I live in a different road but my last in-car satnav did that too. Initially, the big issue I had was getting it registered on line and I am still having trouble getting updates from Garmin on line. The registration process did not appear very easy and the site awkward for this process. When I telephoned for help I got the most patronising obnoxious little twit; it was all he could do to stay awake and speak to me. When I tried to ring back and speak to someone else, the phone just rang out. Garmin UK need to get their customer care on track and make sure their staff are up to speed on their interpersonal skills. If I don’t have to phone them, then this device will be very effective.

I only had this sat nav for a few days….and it is fab, like the iphone of sat navs.

I wasnt sure about it as it is quite expensive and if I didnt have Amazon Vouchers to use then may be…but it is worth every penny, has loads of features the main one being than it will link with my phone.

I was in a market for a new sat nav and after reading a couple of reviews one for tom tom and one for this…it is the first Garmin sat nav I owned and am impress with this model…my work colleague has always held them in high regard so he is green with envy that I got this.

I got to grips with the device quickly, found it easy to use and to set up. I cant get over how thin it is. Really liked how the device displays the route, changes at times to give a long distance view, making it very clear where you going, turnings off. The only feature I finding not so easy to use is the voice commands as it doesnt always pick up what I am saying….but I didnt buy the sat nav for this.

There are many options, devices and phone software for sat nav…being a someone who needs a satnav for work purposes then it is my opinion that you cant beat a stand alone device…phone software isnt good enough yet.

My view is Garmin Nuvi 3790t is worth the price tag, and a good investment…and not just restricted to the car but you can use it in a pedestrian mode. I am sorry TomTom but Garmin got the upper hand with this model, and services come included rather than having to pay extra for.

Garmin have eliminated the possiblity to use third party radar warnings. The unit always defaults back to the Garmin-Cyclos file.

It is always difficult to consider changing from Tom-Tom because their product range is amongst the market leaders and especially when using their ” Live Service”. Having heard about the Garmin Nuvi 3790T and pondered the latest product reviews, I decided to give it a go. The service from Amazon is, as always, first class. What you see is exactly what you get and that is highly commendable in today’s market place. The 3790T is super slim, responsive and, quite frankly, fits the bill, as they say. Today, it faces it first long run test and I have no doubt that it will come through with flying colours because Garmin have invested so much research, investment and energy in producing their latest flagship for a highly competitive market.
