Wasn’t sure if it was worth upgrading the cable on my Wii – after all, it’s not meant to output fantastic graphics.

However, I for the sake of a fiver or so, I decided to buy this – and definitely haven’t regretted it! The picture quality on my Samsung LCD is very much improved – text is crisp and clear, colours rich. It really has made a big difference, and I’d definitely recommend.

For anyone connecting a Wii to a HD tv via scart (or composite) cable – you may be losing out on picture quality – using scart, the Wii interlaces the signal, then the tv de-interlaces it – and some HD tvs, especially cheaper brands, don’t do it all that well, producing a poorer quality picture – so getting a cable like this means you can set the Wii to output using 480p (progressive, not interlaced) in the Wii settings, and you may get a much nicer picture.

I have a low-priced 32″ HD TV, and there is a big improvement using this cable instead of scart – though some people, usually with the more expensive brands of HD TV, may not find so much of a difference to their picture quality.

I haven’t ever purchased a Nintendo official component cable so I can’t directly compare BUT this cable has certainly dramatically improved the picture quality. Image is now pretty much razor sharp. Very happy with purchase. Especially at the price paid. Highly recommend!

If you have a Component Video input on your TV then using this cable from TeckNet will improve the picture quality from your Wii very noticeably. Although far from HD quality the picture becomes sharper and clearer and text is much better defined. You will need to change the setting in the Wiis TV menu to 480p from 480i to see the benefit – the p gives a progressive scan as opposed to i which is interlaced; Wikipedia has articles explaining the difference between the two if you are unsure.

One thing to be careful of when connecting the cable to the TV is to get the two red plugs in the correct sockets. One red is part of the video signal and the other is the right channel audio – on a Sony Bravia TV the sockets are in the same order as the cable and is easy to get right. For other sets remember the three video plugs are followed by the two audio plugs. If you get it wrong the colours will look wrong and there will be no audio from the right hand speaker.

The cable is well made for the price, and is an inexpensive upgrade for the Wii which is well worth making.

There would appear to be some debate as to whether adding a composite cable makes any difference to the picture on LCD/Plasma screens. I for one found that adding a cable and changing the screen on my Wii to 480p made a world of difference!

The next question was do I spend a lot of money on a ‘genuine’ cable or an after market item such as this one.

This cable is extremly well made and performs flawlessly, I cannot recommend it enough particularly at this very low price.
