For once I resisted the obvious temptation to go for the more expensive, ‘pro’ option. That’s the hype as far as I’m concerned and we all swallow it hook line and sinker…don’t we?

Admittedly, sometimes choosing the cheaper option can be a mistake, but I don’t profess to being an expert, or reliant on the product to make me a living. The subtle differences between good and top quality are sometimes so minimal as to be totally lost on the layman. Which is why I went for the cheaper filter, rather than giving in to the blurb.

The difference, as I say, is minimal. Its a UV filter and, as far as I’m concerned, does its job and does it well. It protects my lens and makes a significant difference to the quality of shot. In fact, I’d have to say that this filter and my polariser are probably all I need to produce great pictures.

Good product.

This Hoya filter absorbs ultraviolet rays without effecting visible light balance. UV light causes hazing and a blue hue in outdoor photographs. The filter can also be used as a permanent lens protector for the outer part of the lens . It fits very well .

I have chosen this product because Hoya is one of the reliable optical instrument company and I didn’t want to lose my money and time buying cheap one and failed. The quality is very satisfactory and I’ll choose Hoya’s filter when I buy another lens.

I understand that a UV filter is useful for two reasons – primarily to filter out UV light which can make outdoor shots look more hazy than the view appears to the naked eye, and secondly as a physical layer of protection for your expensive lens i.e. if the UV filter gets scratched its a lot cheaper to replace than a scratched lens. I had trouble finding any useful reviews of UV filters which took a scientific approach. The one I did find concluded that this filter was very effective at doing its primary job and very reasonable priced. Indeed the review also concluded that high price does not equal effective UV filter!

Unfortunately I do not have the photography experience to confirm the effectiveness of the filter but I can tell you that I received the product I ordered very quickly and at a good price.
