I first bought a set of these headphones a year or two ago, and they have only just worn out despite thousands of hours of use. The secret is the high quality rubber-coated flexible cable which all good earphones come with nowadays. This coating allows you to bend, twist and coil the wire with virtually zero fatigue, giving the headphones an incredibly long lifespan. Another excellent feature of the cable is the length, which allows a reasonably tall person to listen without feeling any uneccesary tugging on their ears.

The ear plugs themselves are made of a durable, water resistant and sound-absorbing foam which becomes more malleable (squishy) as it warms up in your ear. This allows a very comfortable fit which moulds to your ear, but which will return to its original shape when not in use. Since the foam fits your ear canal perfectly, it excludes most outside noise and hence the quality sound is naturally increased. Even at very low volume settings (i rarely needed to set my Creative ZEN 4GB MP3 Player above 50%), these efficient headphones will provide the listener with clear sound, saving on valuable battery life! Fantastic value, and just as good as any £50 earphones i have tried too.

The right hand earpiece failed within one month. I reported the fault, received a replacement set (very promptly thank you) and returned the faulty goods.

The right hand earpiece in the replacement set is now becoming very faint and the item is no longer any use to me.

I think the item is of very poor quality.

Hardest wearing earphones i’ve ever bought, these have even survived going through the washing machine and tumble dryer without too much damage.

I got through two sets of Sennheiser CX 300 last year because their build quality was not too great (the sound fell off from the left channel…) These JVC headphones fit very well – the marshmallow bits are different from, and better than, other headphones. The sound is not as heavy on the bass as Sennheiser, but it is perfectly acceptable, especially at the price. The wires look tougher than Sennheiser wires, so I’m hoping the build quality isn’t as poor as Sennheiser.

I have always previously used the excellent creative labs ep630 in ear headphones, as I listen exclusively to heay rock music and the ep630s handle deep bass with ease. I find it can sometimes be a long process to get the buds settled properly in the ear to benefit from the sound, and thought I might purchase a cheap set of these JVC ‘phones and transplant the ‘marshmallow’ buds onto my ep 630’s. I wasn’t really interested in using the JVC’s, as I’d read the reviews saying that they are unreliable and more worryingly for me, tinny. When mine arrived I popped them in to see how tinny they were before I pulled them apart. Well, contrary to the popular view, I was amazed by these earphones. They are unbelievably comfortable and fit superbly into my lugs, and the sound quality is superb. They offer a really deep punchy bass sound with no distortion, and the mid range and treble are well defined and crisp. The overall sound quality is well balanced, but driven by that powerful bottom end punch. Maybe it’s just that these happen to fit my ears perfectly, or maybe other reviewers mp3 players do not suit these earphones, my mp3 player is the Philips 16gb go-gear opus which does reproduce a great bass sound, and these earphones enhance the performance considerably, even more than the ep630’s mentioned earlier.

The purpose of this reveiw is to balance the many less than positive reviews posted about the product. They nearly stopped me buying them, and my listening experience would have been the poorer for it.
