Bought this to add an old Xp PC to my new network, and because I haven’t got a clue what Im doing I went for the cheapest one I could find.

I followed the instructions that came with the dongle ie loaded driver disc and then plugged dongle in.

Graph showed connection dropping in/out intermittently. Messed about with the settings without really knowing what I was doing for hours trying to stabalise connection without success.

Performed system restore then ignored instructions and just plugged the thing in without driver disc. Xp recognised it immediately and connection was up and running within 1 minute!

My second Pc is in an upstairs bedroom and the status window always says the connection is “very good”. With this being my first attempt at creating a home network I can’t comment on transfer speeds etc because I have nothing to compare against, but I can say my broadband connection is as fast upstairs as it is downstairs.

I hope this helps other first timers.

Tried this on an old p3 with usb 1.1 and it works perfectly, in fact, tried this on a few computers, laptops (used as a connection to get windows updates to friends knackered computers)

It holds the connection very well, driver install is simplistic, does the job and good for the price!!!

can’t fault it!!!!!

802.11g Wireless G USB Network Adapter 54Mbps USB 2.0 (Vista Compatible) – MicroNEXTSR

I’ve struggled to get a Linksys WMP54GS Wireless adapter to work with Vista – downloaded drivers till I’m blue in the face – none worked – keep losing the connection.

This adapter worked straight out of the box, Vista found the drivers (via an ethernet link) and uploaded them. Why spend more on Linksys stuff that dont work?

OS = XP2

Instructions say load CD Rom & drivers will load automatically, then plug in USB Wireless Adapter & Windows will recognise it & accept it accordingly. NO! Windows says new hardware found please insert CD Rom for drivers, which it then installs again, only this time trying to use the Windows Wireless Network wizard, which after a reboot shows two icons on your taskbar. Result = conflicts.

Recommendation – Uninstall. Go back to restore point prior to installation. Plug adapter in, windows asks for drivers, put CD in tray and load drivers. Windows reboots & then recognises adapter straight away using Windows Wireless Network system. No probs after that.

Adapter works well, but range is not great. 1 Room & your down to 11bps, so does drop off quite quickly.

Read the previous reviews which said they had no problems when running Linux Ubuntu. Ordered the product and received it within 48 hours. Straight out of the packet, plugged it in and away it went. Running well, certainly up to the speed of the cable with no wires!
