For a fiver, this is a bargain!

I was really impressed with the mechanism – the arms on the side are adjustable, and have sponges to stop them damaging the phone at all. It would also hold many other phones/devices tightly, so long as they weren’t much narrower than the desire. As well as the arms on the side, it also has a couple of flip down supports to hold it from the bottom.

It gives a really tight grip on the phone – once mine was in, I’ve been able to confidently hold it upside down and shake it all over the place and it doesn’t budge.

The only reason I’ve given it 4 stars rather than 5 is that the windscreen suction mount fits into the phone-holding part with 4 plastic hooks slotting into the grooves on the back. I’m not sure if mine was a one off, but there just wasn’t quite enough clearance for the hooks to fit in the grooves. But I just wore down the corners of the grooves with a screwdriver and now it goes in fine and grips very tight.

Despite this small issue, I’d definitely reccommend!

for the price this is its unbelivable quality, the whole thing is VERY sturdy and holds my desire comfortably on the windscreen even when i drive over old cobbles in my town centre.

the adjustability is brilliant i can have my phone comfotably in front of me in either portrait for calls or landscape for when im using the satnav,

have had no problems fitting it into the mount on the phone. would reccomend this to anyone.

Overall I am pleased with this purchase.

Pros- The bracket holds the phone securely; the suction part appears to be very secure

Slight niggles- rattles a bit when driving. Think its the release button.

Cons- The charger overheats my phone. I have ordered an official one to replace it from my phone manufacturer.

The mount alone is worth the money. Holds my HTC Desire in place perfectly.

Downside is the charger. The cable is not very long so if you want to locate it to the right of the steering wheel then you’ll be in trouble. But the real issue is that if you’re running sat nav software then it’s not powerfull enough to top it up, or even maintain the existing battery level. So if you’re going on a journey the battery will go flat.

To be fair to the supplier Modern-Tech, when I flagged this with them they were excellent and sent me a replacement immediately, but I have yet to test it. However, I think I’ve read elsewhere that others have had similar problems.

Does what it says on the tin.

This is far better than trying to get a car holder which is a custom fit for a particular phone. The design of this means you can clamp any phone into it and it has plenty of padding either side to protect the phone while holding it solidly at the same time. The suction cup was fine and the flexibility was such that I could get it into the position I needed it easily. The charger lead that came with it was fine and has a curly lead. I had a bit of a problem with this because it was a stretch from the socket to the unit. The curly lead meant I could stretch it at some points and let it keep its shape at others – a straight lead would have got caught up and dangled all over the place and made the whole installation very untidy.

There is a really useful flip out angle bracket (not shown in the pictures) which supports the phone from below and give reassurance that it won’t fall through the clamps and onto the floor.

Only criticism was that the clamp unit is separate from the suction cup unit – the connection was too loose and would have fallen off if the phone had been on its side. I use the satnav in portrait mode in the car so this didn’t bother me. I did consider superglueing the two together – would be better to do this if you want to be safe in landscape mode.

Four stars only because of the loose connection but what do you expect for £5!
