This is not really a review more of a question. I want to buy this camera from amazon but can’t find if it comes with a basic warranty from panasonic (eg 2 years) or if I have to buy one. Thanks.

I bought this purely as a point and shoot camera as I did not want to be wasting time fiddling with all sorts of manual settings.

The Ai mode did not produce any decent pictures. Even the slightest movement produced blurred images. I ended up taking two to three shots per scene just to get a usable picture. The camera struggled to pick the right settings when taking shots indoors resulting in pictures with very unrealistic colours and exposures. The TZ7 really falls apart when asked to perform under low light condidtions. Pictures are extremely underexposed and very grainy, not worthy of a 10MP camera. I even used the manual settings (white balance, ISO settings etc..) but did not get acceptable pictures.

As most others have mentioned, battery life is very poor and did not last me a whole day before recharging. Panasonic have not helped matters by blocking out third party vendors through firmware upgrades.

As alternatives I would recommend the Sony H20 or Sony WX1, both of which performed brilliantly in similar conditions.

I dont think that the TZ7 is as good as it is made out to be, the one star is for the HD movie mode which actually performs very well.

In door flash poor and spare battery price quite silly; panasonic give a bad impression by such devious overcharging. You do need a spare battery I am afraid but life is OK. Probably costs too much for what it is.
