It’s surprisingly hard to find a good clock radio these days. There seems to be two major hurdles when choosing one. First, finding a model that has a true L.E.D. display, rather than horrible low contrast L.C.D.s that illuminate your bedroom and are unreadable at pillow height. Secondly, it’s hard to find a clock radio that is simple! Too many models out there are way too complicated that are (by their very nature) hard to use.

This Philips has it sorted. The display is ULTRA clear, using real L.E.D.s that light a pleasant green. Also, it’s very neat and small(ish) with mega simple and obvious controls. One nice touch in particular is the “alarm reset” button; pressing this simply turns off the alarm and re-enables it for 24hrs later. No need to slide a switch and then remembering to switch it back on before the next morning.

The radio is good too. FM sensitivity is excellent and I didn’t actually need to unravel the FM antenna wire. Whilst the volume is not particularly loud, it’s certainly enough for a radio that’s only 1 foot away from your head!

The alarm sounder is pleasant and preset at a sensible volume, again not loud, but enough to wake me without a start!

To summarise, this clock radio is a welcome return to common sense simplicity and clarity. It also looks good too, neat design with an amazingly clear display.

A Good clock considering how cheap it is. It is light so it feels cheap which I guess it is but it honestly is a good clock with good LED that you can see at day and night. It has a radio which is a nice feature which can also double up as an alarm to wake you if you don’t like the default sound. Volume can be turned up quite loud but I have mine set to around 80%.

I would recommend this for the money and feel it is suitably priced.

I bought this radio alarm clock as a replacement for one which gave good service for more than ten years. This clock looked so similar, I thought it would be a good replacement. However, the function slide bar is so small and the positions so close together that I cannot get it to perform the correct function, and whatever I do the alarm goes off. Philips is a name I have respected for many years, our main tv’s have been Philips for over 30 years, and we have many other Philips products which we like. This has been a great disappointment. Also, the radio will not play within the vicinity of a cordless telephone, which I also have next to my bed. Maybe it’s me, but this clock will go in the bin!

I thought this might be an ideal cheap, quick and easy to use replacement for my old Saisho cube radio alarm. Yes, the price is good, the instructions simple and the display clear. On the down side the whole thing is too lightweight and the switch on the top to set the alarm is way to fiddley. The sleep button is almost impossible to hit in the dark and I’m amazed that 3 weeks later it’s still on my bedside table
