At such a bargain price I bought this nylon case and the leather versionPhilips DLA1002H/10 – HipCase Black Leather Case for iPhone 3G/3GS. They are identical in shape but I find that my iPhone is marginally easier to get in and out of the former owing to the more slippery nylon material. The hip case clips firmly onto a belt or to the waist band of trousers, and also to the edge of a suitably-shaped pocket. The placement of the cut-outs in the case mean that only the headphone socket is accessible: the Home button, etc are covered over by the case so, as far as I can see, one has to have headphones with a microphone or a Bluetooth connection to answer calls. I often have an audiobook or podcast playing, but, thanks to the iPhone stopping the recording when a call comes in, I don’t have to take my phone out of the case but just use the controls on the headphone microphone. The audio then re-starts when the call ends. However, if I want to make a call I have to take the phone out of the case, which is fairly easy because of the cut-out on the long-edge which enables me to push the phone out sideways.

The case gives good protection from scratches to the screen and from most knocks, but the corners of the phone are exposed to possible damage if dropped onto a hard surface.
