I absolutely love my new blu ray player, I think it’s perfect.

And price wise it’s an incredible bargain. 6 blu ray titles cost around £50-60, so the actual price of the player is about £50-60.

What I love the most about this player is the fact that it can read all types of files on my external hard drive, it plays DivX and MKV, so you can watch all your home videos (through USB).

The remote control is light and very responsive and the main 3 buttons glow in the dark so you can use them in complete darkness, how cool is that? I’ve got loads of remote controls in my flat (Sony, Philips,Toshiba, JVC), but Samsung’s is the best and the most responsive (very fast).

There are no buttons on the fron panel of the unit, instead Samsung provides touch sensitive panel simalr to touch screen on mobiles, which is very easy and enoyable way to operate the player. (welcome to the 22nd century).

Another thing that I love about this player is that it greets you with a very pleasant chiming sound, which reminds of ringtones and chimes on my old and very expensive Nokia 8800,

Overall, I’m over the moon with this player. And as about the most important things – picture and sound, I think it depends on the type of TV that you have, Every movie I played so far looked stunning on my Toshiba HD 1080, 42′ LCD TV. Quality of the sound depends on the sound level of a DVD/movie, so keep this in mind and don’t blame the player.

Got one of these the other week.

Seems pretty good so far.

To make it region-free for DVD (no code for region free blu-ray yet) do this:

1) power off then power on again, wait until it gets to the start-up selection screen.

2) eject disc tray and then close disc tray without a disc in.

3) wait until ‘no disc’ message has stopped displaying.

4) use the remote and press REPEAT 57538

5) A ‘2’ should appear in the top left corner.

6) Press 9 to make the player region free.

7) Power off and and powe on again, and try a foreign disc.

Just tried on mine, AFTER applying latest firmware update, and it works.

Note though that this sequence is for Region 2 locked (UK) machines only.

This is an excellent product for great value. If you bought all the films separately they would set you back around £60 so just based on that you’re essentially getting a full HD player for £40-£50 which is the round about the same price as a good DVD player.

remote control has big buttons that are clearly labelled which make it a good thing if you’re like me and watch your films with the lights down.

the player itself is about 6 inches wider than a SKY box in comparisson and roughly 3 stacked DVD boxes in height. the touch buttons on the front (not raised physical buttons) are illuminated without being distracting so you can clearly see and use them if need be. when the film is playing it runs silently and if you have a HDMI cable & a tv that supports the input it’s definitely worth it to save on all the wires – but you get the component cables with it anyway.

the packaging (my supplier was amazon directly so yours may vary slightly if from different supplier) was adaquate, the whole lot comes in a large box which, when opened, contains a smaller (thinner) box that holds the player with the 6 films lining the big box.

it has the option for internet access which is all well and good, but generally speaking if i wanted to access the internet i would use my computer. the internet option is primarily for firmware updates and you can connect with an ethernet cable or wirelessy if you purchase a separate dongle.

the films themselves for me are a good range, i probably wouldn’t buy Mamma Mia or Bruno but i have friends who own PS3’s who would like that and Mamma Mia will be a good present for my mum’s up coming birthday. regardless of what films you like, the bundle is still worth it.

my only gripe was that i ordered mine a few days ago which was dispatched on the 3rd, only for the price to drop on the 4th! but timing is everything and i’m still happy with the price i got it for and the films as i technically ‘saved’ money on the films.

As promised in the commments thread, here is my review.

First of all, to cut a long story short, i had to send the first one back due to display problems, only to find out that it was the HDMi lead and not the actual player. Having bought it from Argos (more expensive but i had loads of vouchers) i exchanged it for a Sony unit. It was £10 cheaper but didn’t have 6 blu rays free. After discovering the problem with the lead, as the display was the same as the Samsung, i changed it for another one i had and it worked perfect. We suffered one night of the humming the fan made and the rather noticable constant high pitch the disc made as it was spinning (we have this blu ray player in our bedroom and just couldn’t do with the noise)and so decided that it had to go back. Took it back to Argos, paid the extra tenner and got the Samsung again.

It looks great, as a previous reviewer has mentioned the buttons on the front are touch sensitive which is a great little touch. Very thin unit, not intrusive and operates almost silently, not heard any fan noise or disc spinning. The remote is ghastly but you don’t buy a blu ray player for how the remote looks do you.

My advice is to you is this, buy buy buy. The free blu rays are just the icing on the cake. Not the best films in the world (this is not a film review) but Up is just amazing.

Yet again Samsung produce the goods. We have 2 Samsung DVD players in other rooms that are almost 10 years old and still they work. Absolutely made up with this player.

If you are buying this product for the screen fit feature which supposedly converts 21:9 to 16:9 then don’t bother!!…it simply does not work…it seems to simply just zoom in to try and create a full screen feel, however lots of the picture content is lost round the edges, i was very excited about this feature, however it does not do anything like what the samsung website says (take a look at the racing car pictures to show how they advertise it!!)…they do not show any picture loss whatsoever
