Got this because my last DVD player had completely given up being able to read any disc.

I went for this DVD player as aesthetically it looked like it would fit in with the rest of my setup, as well as the fact I have a Samsung TV, and I’ve been very impressed with it.

Setup was very straightforward. Plugged in my HDMI cable (you’ll need to buy one if you don’t have one already, only component cables are included in the box).

My TV is a Samsung LCD, which has full HD. The remote for the TV worked the DVD without having to do anything.

All the settings (which you sometimes have to play around with on DVD players) set the output perfectly.

I tried a few discs, and was very pleased with the results. The upscaling from DVD to full HD is excellent, really crisp and clear, absolutely perfect.

Load times for the discs are excellent as well – the fastest of the various DVD players I have around the house.

In summary, an excellent DVD player at a great price. Highly recommended, especially if you’ve already got a Samsung TV.

I have the DVD player now for 1 week and so far so good. Using it along with a HDMI cable on a 720 HD tv. Also tried in on my smaller 1080P tv as a comparison. I am not able to compare it against blue-ray, however picture quality is very good.

Plays ok of USB drive, disk drive both DVD and avi format therefore no problems experienced like previous poster.

Another subtle feature I like is the absence of bright lights on the front; my previous DVD player had a blue power light that could warn ships of the coast. This unit has a dimmed time counter that is just dark enough to still be able to be read from distance.

Overall it does what it says on the tin, therefore giving it 5 stars on value for money.

I’ve had this player for a week now, and I’m extremely pleased with it.

The unit looks nice, seems well-built, and has a good remote.

Picture quality is very good, I’m using it with a HD-ready (720p) TV so I can’t vouch for the 1080p upscaling.

I bought it primarily for playing video from a USB stick, and it’s been excellent in that respect. I’m using a 16GB USB stick, and it’s worked with everything I’ve thrown at it so far. It even worked with a few files that I had problems playing with Windows media player on my PC. Browsing for files is also very quick, even when you’ve got a lot of files.

All-in-all, an excellent DVD player if you also want to play back video or music from USB. I know there are some slightly cheaper budget models out there, but I don’t quite trust them!

I bought this DVD player to go with my recent purchase of a Samsung 46inch 1080P LCD. There are many good features on this DVD player – USB, DivX, Upscale, HDMI, etc. etc. but there are many things that were wrong or not working in the player I received, which overall makes this player not so good:

On screen menu – Now we’re in the 21st century so one would expect the on-screen menu to be well produced using excellent graphics, but it isn’t! It seemed as though the menu software was produced in the early 90s. It has a sort of ‘dot-matrix’ type menu system consisting of the two colours: blue and white. I expected more than that from a newly designed product.

The rewind and fastfoward function – It goes like this: 2x 4x 64x 128x, so when it came to rewinding or fastforwarding a film, you can only do it either very slow (2x 4x) or very fast (64x 128x), and not in between (16x 32x), which is very annoying because you’ll miss the action. Having queried this feature directly with Samsung, their reply was that this is the way this player was designed, which is not great considering it is new.

Non-responsive remote controller – this was really annoying, it could be that I had a faulty product but if I can recall another reviewer stating the same problem. I learnt that not only was the remote controller non-responsive, the player froze! I had to take out the mains plug to restart it. The remote controller was slightly smaller than expected and I could have lived with it had the player worked!

Anynet – this feature didn’t work, again faulty product.

I was tempted to give this a one star, but I know Samsung are better than that, so I stuck with two in this case.

I must stress it’s not Amazon’s fault, they have been helpful in collecting and refunding me for this purchase. Though I spent so much time, money and effort on the phone with Samsung direct for them to confirm my product was faulty.

After giving this player back, I bought a Samsung Blu-ray player with DivX, USB, Upscale, HDMI and I LOVE IT! Everything bad point I stated above (menu, Anynet, rewind/fast forward…) were sorted in this player (and I had the option of watching Blu-ray discs if I wanted to). The menu is excellent and seems like they’ve invested their time in this department (as one would expect), basically it has everything the DVD player has but much better produced. I say don’t waste your money on an Upscale DVD player, invest a little extra cash and get a Blu-ray player, and you can pick one of these up for around £[] if you search around on the internet or maybe even on Amazon. 5 out of 5 stars for this Blu-ray player.

I chose this DVD player after shopping around to find an upscaling player that could be unlocked for region free. I’m suprised no other reviewers have picked up on this. I don’t know if i’m allowed to post instructions so I won’t but it is easy to google for them.

The player is great looking and simple to set up. Though it has no optical out it does have Coaxial so good news for people wanting to run surround sound systems off it. The upscaler looks brilliant and for the price, I honestly can’t fault this machine. Good job Samsung.
