Now that I’ve had time to use the replacement laptop (see below), I’m enjoying using it: good keyboard, great screen definition & colours, fast boot & shut down, good overall performance.

However, the original laptop wasn’t so good: after a long, hard struggle, I finally got it to connect to my wifi, only to have it constantly drop the connection and refuse to reconnect. Samsung helpline suggested updating the drivers & reinstalling Window 7. Neither made any difference, so they readily agreed to swap it. Amazon were great in arranging this.

The replacement connected to wifi first time, though it too occasionally drops the connection, and once or twice has been stubborn in reconnecting.

When you use the Samsung update software it looks as if nothing is happening – there’s no movement on the download bar – be patient, it will eventually download & install the updates, though not always automatically, even when it’s set for this.

The first problem I encountered was with the setup. The Microsoft language selection didn’t work: mine was in German and wouldn’t change to English. Amazon replaced it. Since then I’ve had problems with the product key. I decided to get in touch with Samsung to see if they could help. I have to admit, they were very unprofessional; my problem didn’t seem urgent. As my legal contract was with Amazon, and they decided to give me a full refund.

Would I buy another – anything – from Samsung? NO.

Good price, good computer, battery time about two hours, a bit of a pain setting up if lacking computer knowledge. No major faults found as yet, delivery prompt!

I purchased the computer about a month ago.I was not very pleased with the quality and was going to return it,but did not.The processor is quite fast and so I kept the computer. The sound output is crap, very low in output and not of good quality. The case is flimsy and the silver border around the screen is loose at the center of the screen, where the camera is at the top and the Samsung name on the bottom.

The keyboard is flat, and I find it hard to use,as it is so light to the touch,it is very easy to make mistakes. There is button bounce, where you press the button once, you often get two or three characters displayed. As a touch typist,I find it hard to use.

The whole thing is made of very flimsy, lightweight plastic, and the top of the case is particularly flimsy. If you press lightly with one finger in the middle of the top of the case,it buckles with an indent. You can see the case bend downward with the imprint of your finger. This case is much too flimsy, and it could so easily be damaged by pressing down with your fingers when closing the case.

I noticed a hairline crack on the screen, and it is cracked.Since the computer has only been used by me,and I have been the only one to use it,I know that it has not been roughly handled. How then did the crack appear?

I think I know,in fact there is only one explanation! —- When closing the case,I pressed on the top of the case lightly,to close it,and this is how the screen got cracked. The only other explanation is that the crack appeared itself and maybe there is a fault with the material of the screen.–

I SHOULD EMPHASISE,- I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY ONE TO USE THE COMPUTER,AND HAVE BEEN CAREFUL WITH IT.– So,there it is.The lid,the top of the computer case,is so light and flimsy, that it buckled and damaged the screen when I closed the lid.

I phoned Samsung this morning and explained the fault to the man,and he told me the computer warranty does not cover this fault. When I explaind that I was careful and did not subject the computer to rough use,and there are no scratches or damage marks, and in fact the cellophane film is still on top of the case, the lid,and that the computer has not been damaged by me,he said the warranty did not apply, and that I would have to pay for the repair.—- I am very dis-satisfied with Samsung, and indeed will write a letter of complaint! —- Please note! — The Samsung models – R519,R530,R580,R730,R780,all have the same type of case. I recommend not to buy any of the Samsung models listed.Avoid these Samsung models, and buy something else.

I have purchased the laptop today and it looked really impressive fast good screen etc. ….till I tried to look at a video and I found the sound was really crap. The quality of the sound can compete with my radio alarm clock but not in term of volume .I should notice before purchase that the 2 speakers were about 2,5cm X 1cm each, but I didn’t. I’m really disappointed and will try to give back the laptop tomorrow to currys shop.
