Firstly, if you do decide to get this, shop around, prices go quite near £200. I’ve got this hooked up to a macbook for use in video editing, but have also had a go with a set-top box, ps3 and dvd player.

This television is bargainous, because it can do so much. An RF input for television, DVI/VGA for monitor needs, component video, optical audio out, and two HDMI’s for everything else (one of those hdmi’s is in a flap in the side though). The television accepts 1080p and although I only work with 720p video it looks very nice. As a side note 1080p makes for some very readable screen text.

The TV of course comes with settings for the electronics shop, very overblown, but once all of the dynamic contrast and blocking filters are off, it’s a very accurate tv. Bad sources will look worse on this, the resizing engine isn’t the most advanced, but a well put together DVD will appreciate the extra resolution above sd.

One initial quibble I had was that the power went off whenever I moved it. However once you’re past deciding where to put it, it’s very reliable. I personally secured it with some (probably inadvisable) blu-tack. Also the included stand will not tilt forwards from vertical, only back. If the shelf you’re putting it on is higher than your viewing area you’re going to need a bracket of some kind.

But it comes down to this, the gamut is pretty wide, colours accurate. blacks are nice and black, response is fast, and it can play the highest quality sources currently available pixel to pixel. Low energy use is a bonus. You will get a lot more for more, particularly the backlight isn’t as even as perhaps I’d like, but I was so surprised by how accurate and lifelike this monitor can be.

p.s. the speakers are rubbish.

Good points – I must agree with the previous Review as far as I have tried the many gizzmo’s. I find that the monitor acts as a great tv, which is what I mainly bought it for. The menu is easy to follow, and you are in control, My dvd and vcr works a treat through it, I also tuned into many more Freeview channels than I have had before. The samsung is also a very nice looking tv-monitor. The non reflective screen is also a boon to me, as I cannot see the reflections of the window’s on the screen.

Bad points- The speakers are the worst, I can honestly say, I have ever come across, they sound like a demented bee in a bean tin, but to be fair most small tv’s suffer from this problem.I knew this to be a problem before I purchased it, after reading other reviews. To combat this shortcoming, I obtained a pair of pc sp

eakers before it arrived, plugged them into the h/phone jack, and WOW, it’s now better than my big Sony. the speakers I used are sold on Amazon, Creative Inspire T10’s.

All in all a great set, buy it.

This Tv has a such a wow factor, TV’s sub 32″ are expensive by comparison. However to a get this with 1080p resolution is awesome. This was being wallmounted in our kitchen replacing an old JVC. The picture is so much brighter and crisp. I am not new to samsungs as we have several others around the house from 19″ to 40″, but the picture quality of this one is the best. FreeView at a glance and you’d say it was a HD Channel. Setup doesnt get much simpler than clicking “OK” and we have a couple of ADHOC channels in the house (CCTV/Sky distribution) and renaming and moving the channels over and above the standard setup was very easy….

Sound quality is good, although you do seem to have to have the volume set loud you’d have thought a volume setting of 20 out of 100 would be suffice, but no its normal sound level is about 45 out of 100. Still plenty loud enough.

The only point that we dont like is that the TV viewing angle is small, being wall mounted in the corner of the kitchen. If you stood close under it you can only see black shadows. viewing from the sides is not an issue. I mean not directly under it either. Our little’en in the high chair used to see the past telly perfectly fine, now we have to move his chair back about another 3 feet.

You might say angle the TV down more, but the bracket we have already fixed to the wall has a max of 15 degrees angle, i changed the bolts for some longer ones and this helped me get another 5 degrees or so but it the high chair still needed to be set back, but now it’s see able.

Conclusion…

This will be the best TV that money can buy for the size, compare this TV to anyother TV from 19″ to 25″ and this spec will beat them hands down. Not even Sony 19″ models come close in the price. I have always hated that i could get a 32″ tv for not much more…..but still the spec and quality makes it worth while.

In general it’s a great bit of kit. Image is clear and sharp. Samsung customer support is always very good (in my experience). The terrestrial digital tuner is very good – better than others I’ve used. MAX power consumtion is 55 watts – pretty good if you’re interested in that side of things.

On the negative side: The sound is very tinny. I was expecting this of course, having read other reviews.

Adjusting the graphic equaliser doesn’t help – any more bass and you get distortion or buzzing. These are tiny tiny speakers of course. Don’t expect too much! Speech is very clear if a little thin. You can always route your sound through a hi-fi or other speaker system – so it’s not a disaster.

One thing that’s a common problem with all the SyncMaster screens is the varying colour from different viewing angles. I use a 206BW for graphic design work. The image is generally excellent, but there are issues if someone is looking over your shoulder – they need to be sitting EXACTLY where you are to see the colours you’re seeing! The same applies to the SyncMaster 2333HD.

In conclusion: I think we’re looking at a great 23″ computer monitor with built in speakers, HDMI and digital tuner. With a 3yr warranty. If you usually use your hi-fi or speaker system for sound then it’s a great TV as well. Not bad for the money…

I’ve just bought this Monitor – and thought I’d write a review.

Firstly this is a HD (1920 x 1080) Monitor with speakers – not a TV that can be a monitor.

For the price of around £200 for this 23 inch monitor, (with speakers), this is excellent.

The fact that it can be a TV is great also – something to bear in mind also – which isn’t mentioned in the tech. specs. is that it has a Digital and analogue tuner fitted, (great for us people still in analogue land).

As to the Sound quality – well it’s a Samsung – and as an owner of a Samsung TV and a previous owner of both Panasonic and Sony LCD TVs – I can say that Samsung do not ‘do’ sound very well compared to the more expensive brands.

All I can say is – you try and find a Syncmaster 1920 monitor with great sound at this price! – you won’t – more like £500…

My Summary:

It’s a great monitor at the price – and it’s a great, full HD spec., TV (again you try and find a true 23 inch HD TV at this price!). Shame about the sound.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
