I’ve had probably 6 or 7 multi card readers in my time and none have had all these attributes I would have thought should be a minimum

- works with vista – I mean plug it in and good to go!

- *all* of the slots work for read/write

- if the cards are sandisk extreme/ultra – I want to read/write at those speeds (20MB/s+)

This one conforms to all those and doesn’t look like it’s made by a kids toy manufacturer.

I bought this reader for my CompactFlash card. This reader is the fastest one in all the readers I bought. Fantastic looking and easy to use.

This card reader is great and fast but can have problems with small cards. I find XD and MiniSD to get stuck in the reader and can be difficult to remove. Most of the time you need to take the reader off its stand and use your nails to pry the card out. Disappointed there but still a great reader.

Pros:

-It looks pretty stylish

-Reads lots of different formats of card

-Made by Sandisk, who from my experiences are an excellent company in terms of build quality and customer support.

Cons:

-Glossy finish, meaning every time you grip it to insert or remove a card you leave fingerprints all over it.

-The reader often comes off the stand when inserting or removing cards; the magnets aren’t quite strong enough, or the mechanism for securing the stand needs changing for another method.

-The SD card slot was incredibly tight on my reader, meaning I had to get it exactly right to get the card in. This was made more difficult by the angle at which the reader sits, and the fact it keeps coming off the stand when trying to get the card in.

-This reader doesn’t support the new class 10 SDHC cards, so you will never get 30mb/s out of the 30mb/s cards. I got this information from a senior Sandisk technician after I raised a support call regarding the speeds of my class 10 card. To Sandisk’s credit, they offer excellent support, and dealt with my problem excellently. They even offered to exchange the reader for another model (SDDR-199) that does support their 30mb/s cards.

If you only have up to class 6 cards, this reader will work fine, and you will get the maximum speeds achievable with those cards.

In conclusion, if you don’t use the ultra fast cards and can get over the niggles with getting the cards in and out (although in my opinion quite a big niggle, as surely getting the cards in and out easily is pretty important for a card reader) then get this. It does certainly look nice, and you can convince visitors that the box of man sized tissues on your desk is really for cleaning the fingerprints off the reader. :)

Great product…I had to replace my old one because I kept dropping it on a hard wood floor. This is smaller and just as quick.
