Just got one of these to go with my Samsung NC10 netbook computer. This product is a standard laptop type CD/DVD drive, put in to a case, with a USB interface tacked on to the back. On the back of the box is a USB connector, and a supply connector. Supplied was a USB lead, a USB A to power connector lead, and a mains power supply. The unit works fine with just the USB connected, with the power connector not used. However, some PCs may not be able to provide enough current, and it’s then that you need to connect either the of the power leads.

The drive itself is made by LG. It’s a model GSA-T40N. There are no instructions in the box, but none are needed. I plugged it in to my Windows XP PC, and it worked fine without any drivers or other complications. The cardboard box it’s supplied in from the factory, is the only packaging you get. This is not a problem, as there’s some good foam packaging inside. The box has no manufacturer’s uidentification. Likewise, the unit itself only has the Qubz logo on it in one place. No other identification.

The small circuit board in the box, on the back of the drive, privides the USB interface. Rather curiously, this is badged Sonny. Yes, that’s right. Double N. No idea who they are.

All in all, this is a good product, at a good price. Buying from Computer Trading was hassle free too. Five stars.

I wanted a dvd writer for my laptop and this one was a good bit cheaper than the dedicated drive. Also it meant it would work with any pc so that was a bonus.

This arrived quickly from the seller but comes with no driver and no instructions – time to worry – appears not. You don’t have drivers because windows recognizes it instantly and no instructions because basically all you need do is plug in a USB lead.

Have tried it with a few types of burning software and has worked with single and dual layer discs – you don’t always get the full write speed but that seems to have as much to do with what software you use than the kit here.

All in all it is excellent, allows you to burn discs from almost any computer is small, light and portable and above all it works for a very resonable price.

The other reviews are all positive and looking for a DVD RW to replace the none working one in my home PC and to carry around for use with my new netbook, but not wanting to spend a fortune, this looked a no brainer.

No instructions but if you need instructions to put 2 plugs in you should not be playing with computers.

Plugged in to netbook (Acer Aspire one 8 Mb)recognised immediatly and worked perfect, plugged in PC and the same.

In the time it took for my other half to make a cup of tea I had used it on both computers and was burning a home movie.

What more can I say? looks good, works great and fantastic price. Seller delivered very quickly.

Buy one, you won’t be dissapointed.

I agree with most of the other comments. Plug and play – no instructions needed. I do have to say that I had a small problem to start with, in that I bought this to complement my new netbook and although the CD/DVD writer appeared to be working OK when I plugged it in, it wouldn’t actually play a CD. I contacted the seller (Computer Trading – excellent service. I would give them 12 out of 10!) and the very nice man there asked me to try a DVD – with the same lack of success. However I did get a message saying that a ?Codec? wasn’t installed on my netbook. The seller pointed me to a website for a free download, which took a couple of minutes maximum to download and install, and everything from there on worked beautifully. I have now played and recorded CD’s and DVD’s and the postman only delivered it 90mins ago! If I, as a silver surfer, can get it working so easily then the rest of you would have no problem! Just as a footnote – ordered this item Tuesday evening – now Thursday lunchtime and as I said earlier – all working. Excellent service – looking forward to be able to leave seller feedback

I ordered this product over the Internet on the evening of Thursday 20th May 2009 as the DVD/CD drive in my laptop had broken. Having made enquiries earlier that day with local computer repair companies, I was advised that buying an external DVD/CD drive would be the most cost effective answer.

I then surfed the internet and local stores for a suitable product and chose and ordered the Slimline USB drive. I was both suprised and very pleased when it arrived on Saturday morning’s post, the 23rd May.

The product is easy to use – I just plugged it into one of the USB ports on my laptop and could use it straightaway.

Congratulations on the prompt service and a super product.
