The Gothic Revival (Art & Ideas)

Posted by Notcot on Feb 21, 2011 in Gothic |

This work unravels the meanings that Gothic held for its many reinventors – from the political uses of Gothic history in the 17th century to Barry and Pugin’s ‘Houses of Parliament’ in the 19th century. The book examines the influence of Gothic as a dominant cultural and architectural force.

This review is from: The Gothic Revival (Art & Ideas) (Paperback)

The Gothic Revival, by Chris Brookes, proved to be well written, relevant and, for my Open University studies on course AA100, an extremely informative, interesting and useful guide for my essay on Pugin. And, yes I did give full references and an extensive bibliography! I was somewhat surprised, however, to note that it appears to remain the property of Hampshire County Council County Library. Does Amazon ever check this sort of thing? Given the necessary postage (which exceeded the cost of the book) I will of course return it to whence it came.
