The Grendel's Shadow

T.R. Westwood: distinguished professor of biology and the galaxy’s greatest hunter is in for the biggest challenge of his career. When an unknown animal starts killing off settlers on a backwater planet run on coal and steam power, he’s the only person who can help stop the slaughter. Rocks and spears or shotguns and canons, he’ll use whatever is allowed to get the job done.

In a post-singularity future where the human race has spread to millions of worlds, sometimes the native animal population isn’t exactly compatible with our expanding civilization. Taking advantage of a mind as sharp as his aim, Westwood is the only man you call if local wildlife gets out of control and starts devouring your local population.

The Grendel’s Shadow is 35,000 word novella mixing elements of post singularity science fiction, steampunk, horror and western.

A muust have for any Sci-Fi Fan., 5 July 2011

Fans of shows like NSFW and Weird Things will have heard/seen Andrew Mayne. I was very new to this such venture, so when it was announced that Mr. Mayne had written a book I was very interested. Needless to say I was not dissapointed. This Book is such a great read and delves into the realms of Sci-Fi but leaves you wanting more and always makes sure its respectful to it’s Genre. The Post Singularity World and the way Mr. Mayne paints a picture that fills your head with such character and raw emotion has been done perfectly. If your heavily into Sci-Fi and the Singularity, or if you are just a casual reader it caters for both worlds.

Fantastic book, and for under one pound, that is amazing! It’s way underpriced. This book should be at least five pounds!

Get this book today and enjoy this fantastic piece of fiction!

A fantastic paced piece of writing from an author who knows sci fi. The story is essentially a western in the future , A gun ho character hired to rid a frontier planet of a deadly creature hunting settlers. For the lover of sci fi the aspects of a post singularity race reaching out and colonising the galaxy its all there as well as some fantastic zoological aspects of alien species, but mainly if you love a good old fashioned hero its there. Best of both worlds

And for under a £ !!!

Enjoy

I rather enjoyed the concept of this book (a hunter that obeys by the planetary conventions regarding the technology level he employs to hunt creatures for them) It made for a fun short story. Of the two kindle books I bought around the same time, this and Heartweed, I preferred the style of Heartweed. It’s not sci-fi so perhaps an unfair comparison, but I found the ‘world’ to be of more interest overall. However, I’ll certainly check out more of Andrew’s books.
