Review by Puzzle box for The Zombie Dead (Beyond Terror)[DVD] [1980]
Rating: (4 / 5)
This film was so bad that it turns out to be good, this film is diffidently the trashiest and goriest Italian zombie film I have seen so far and one of my favorites as well, it was done in bad taste like the filmmakers did this on purpose in order to shock the audience, I’m sure it was played at the old drive in cinemas. The living dead are unleashed when a professor unwittingly unseals an underground crypt and in an attempt to tell the zombies that hes their friend well that obviously doesn’t work so he gets devoured lol. The flesh hungry zombies then descend on a group of decadent socialites which includes a nymphomaniac mother and her son that clearly has issues, there are some scenes of incest that are disgusting yet unintentionally hilarious which I’m sure other reviewers have mentioned and the actor that plays the son looks like a realy short 30 year old person, most of the characters were incredibly dumb but thats part of the fun. The zombies are the same kind that appear in Lucio Fulci’s Zombie only it wasn’t as good as that film, they all looked decayed and rotting but some looked to weird and goofy looking with one zombie that had big teeth sticking out and they seem to be handy with a few weapons including a knife and a battering ram believe it or not. There was a lot of flesh being devoured so the gore was excellent and it also had a cool decapitation scene with a scythe. The Zombie Dead or Burial Ground was a fun and very trashy and gory zombie film that will appeal to fans of Italian horror, if you can get past the atrocious acting and bad dubbing then you will definitely enjoy this weird cult classic zombie film.
