Had these for 2 weeks now and never had any problem with the batteries or overheating and i use them for at least 4-5 hours a night gaming or watching films…..Ok the sound from the headset is amazing you can hear every detail in the game sound and unlike my X1s you can tell the direction of the sounds ie hearing exactly where the other team are.The only down side to them is the xbox live chat is very crackly some times i dont know if its becaues there wireless or if its something else interfering with them,it is only the chat because the game sound is crystal clear. If you have more to spend then the astro a40 would be worth a look at but they are wired. As for the previous review i have never had a problem with the batteries i use energizer rechargable ones i can only imagine he has no luck and has had two faulty headsets.

My x41s have worked great and been hassle free. No glitches, popping, echo, voice coms are fine….maybe not quite as clear as before but still eligible and I can monitor my own voice, which keeps these very “wife/girlfriend” friendly.

Just wanted to make 3 points.

1) I hate ipods. They sound like poo. Running an ipod through these puppies though is quite pleasant, and the prologic 2 makes the tinny-squeaky apple fashion gimmicks sound OK. Sure its coloured sound but the optional extra bass will keep doof-doof music lovers happy.

(but you still want a better player- ipods are for mugs)

2) The endless techno/audiophile war continues with the heresy of suggesting 7.1 is possible on headphones. Frankly I say WHATEVER! These sound great…whether the gizmo manages to pull off the surround effect with psychoacoustics or notch-filters doesn’t matter, the surround WORKS! To put it in context, I have been playing a 360 running some old seinnheiser(sp?) earphones that allow me to wear the headset on top as they didn’t noise cancel and were fairly flush. This gave a really good stereo image and allowed for good location of sounds, but was a little awkward. The x41s give enough detail to totally pinpoint the sound in relation to yourself accurately enough for even a lagging, lame non-sniper like myself to pop up and get multiple snap headshots on mw2 on first use, guided almost entirely by just the sound. The sound is VERY detailed, at times overwhelmingly so. It won’t make you an Uber Gamer (they’re all called Gerald anyway)but it will make your games more immersive, and gets you a little more “in the zone”…nuff said.

3) You don’t need these…no one does. They are really an indulgence, justified only by fairly flimsy excuses to those who share your bank account. But at the moment they are THE Rolls Royce of gaming headphones for the 360.

I’m not sure whether Turtle Beach has ironed out any previous x41 issues but I have had none. Setting up was easy.

N.B. if you are running HDMI you may need to remove the grey plastic end on your 360 AV lead with the optical port on it as it is bulky and obscures the HDMI port…or buy a lead adapter off ebay as the official ones are costly…blame microsoft for this bit of cr@p design.

To summarize: Goregeous, but minus 1 star for being just a little too expensive… (but certainly worth saving the extra to get a set rather than the x31s)

Happy to answer questions in the comments..

Well this is my 1st review first of all, and to get to the point, This headset offers sound quality to rival some of the best surroud sound systems around. the sound quality is uncompresed digital sound thourgh wireless and although i was sceptical about whter it would offer dolby digital 7.1 surround sound though wireless but i had my doubts put in check when i tried modern warfare2 i could hear every footstep every bullet exactly from where it came from it is just amazing, oh and dont forget guitar hero/Rockband to good jst too good. The wirless system i much improved from the previous X4 which needed a direct line a sight, on this one you can comfortably put it on the other side of the room you are at and it works fine i my self have wireless tv sender from downtairs to upstairs in a diff room and i got my wireless modem router very close to the wirless sender and i get the odd crackle and pop now and again but with 2 wirlles laptops always on and a pc downstairs i think its pretty fair to much Rf signal going around in my house . the only thing i can complain about is the voice it to high pitched and some times not very clear might just be my cables i dont know. but still good enough, the batterys i use are 1000mhp rechargeble energizer AAA and i have a set in the headset and the other on charge no probs with running out yet. over all if you have the money and your lookin for a good quality surround sound headset and you hate cables like me then go for it you wont regret it oh did i mention its 7.1 surround sound ???

(PS. i apologize for typing errors)

Pros:

The quality of the sound was above expectations. This definitely beats my 2.1 sound bar, While it can’t compare against a good 7.1 system it’s still good at only a fraction of the costs and you can crank up the volume without disturbing anyone else.

The USB powered transmitter is elegant as you don’t need a clumsy adapter and only need to plug it into your XBOX 360.

It’s freaky how convenient wireless headphones can be. I will NEVER go back to using wired ones again.

Cons:

You have to grab the audio via optical cable (included in the package) and since the XBOX 360 doesn’t have an outlet for optic sound you have to use the component cable available with an optic outlet. It’s a shame since I prefer HDMI.

The surround sound isn’t as good as I’d hoped. It’s better than stereo, but compared to a 7.1 (or even 5.1) it’s lacking.

i’d advise anyone to think hard before purchasing this headset. while comfortable and light on the head, the sound quality is far below what you might expect for the money you’ve paid. i had near constant hissing in the background, plus occasionaly crackling and popping, and sometime the sound would disrupt completely. also, when playing online with friends, they would say my voice sounds tinny, or fuzzy, and complain of getting feedback from me.

i’ve since returned mine to the store, and had a full refund.

anybody considering the x41, check out the forums at the official turtle beach website, there are lots of people suffering similar issues, across the world.
