Really easy to set up, had it going in about 5 minutes. My only problem was with the USB dock that comes with it, the connection is a little “loose” so I would recommend an extremely flat surface if your going to use it because it disconnects really easily with little movement of the dock.

I’m a student, working off a laptop all of the time. It’s only got 100gb internal, and I’m not too keen on messing around inside. This has taken all my music and photos comfortably, as well as providing a reliable backup for all my work (coming up to finals, this is important!) with a free programme called SyncToy from Microsoft. I didn’t let it install any proprietary software, I spend enough time clearing up junk software, I wasn’t going to give it a chance. Maybe it’s good, but I know I didn’t need it. I don’t use the supplied dock, because it could get knocked out on my cluttered desk, and I’ve heard it’s not a great idea to shift a hard drive between horizontal and vertical once you’ve used it for a while in one orientation.

Summary:

Pro: Very quiet, good connection speed, very small.

Cons: Dock not very useful, software unnecessary.

They say:

“Grab-and-go USB dock – Convenient USB dock makes it easy to connect your drive to your computer.”

Unfortunately the dock mechanism is very badly designed. The drive doesn’t go in straight but at a slight angle, which you have to guess at otherwise you scratch the plastic casing, so now it looks terrible. Also the connector is proprietary so don’t lose the cable! Overall very dissapointed with it, especially as the main reason I bought it was for easy docking facility. Definitely a case of not doing what it says on the tin. Can nobody in the computer industry design a decent connector? We’ve had PS2, USB, VGA, Parallel, Serial, SCSI, SATA, IDE, RJ45, HDMI and still nobody has come up with a decent design.
