It is frustrating, has reduced my nine year old to tears, my sixteen year old using language that should not said in front of his mother, and me a tad over 21 sulking like a five year old, but we love it and even after having it for over two months one of us is always playing with it. Some times we leave it for days but its like it calls to you and you just have to give it another try to see if you can get a little further. It really is addictive but is so much fun. I gave up smoking just before we got it and it helped as it gave my hands something to do and while concentrating on this i could forget about cravings. It also provides a great source of amusement as anyone who comes to our home gives it a try and it is always fun to see grown men reduced to petulant five year olds while exclaiming there must be something wrong with it. If you want to get your kids something that does not need batteries or needs to be plugged in then this is the one for you.

I picked this up because one of my favourite puzzles is the Superplexus (which I think has been rebranded now as Perplexus without the electronics which allow you to save your best times for each stage).

The Superplexus is a really nice, solid well designed puzzle. The Addicataball really feel like a cheap knock-off when put side by side. The build quality is pretty poor. The surrounding sphere is a thin plastic which you can feel warp as you handle the thing (if you let the ball bearing roll allong the outershall as you hold it, you can feel it pass over your hand.) There are a couple of moving sections which feel stiff and badly constructed. The design isn’t as good: There are various sections where the ball becomes obscured which never really happened with the original and there are even parts where the maze paths cross with no barrier. There are sections which are stolen directly from the original so those who already have the Superplexus should know they aren’t getting a unique game.

The bottom line is this: If you have never owned one of these types of puzzles then the original is hands down the better choice. If you already own the Superplexus and have beaten it then feel free to give this a go but it will feel cheap once you’ve actually got it in your hands. Until they come out with a Superplexus 2 though it’s still 3D maze turning fun… just not as much fun as the original.

Hello, my name is Michael McGinnis. I am a sculptor and art instructor living in northern California. I created PERPLEXUS with the help of my partner, Dan Klitsner. It has been a 31 year journey, starting out as a high school art class project. It is my 3D game, which Addictaball has bootlegged. They know of my prior art and design, which was originally released worldwide by Tiger/Hasbro (it was called Superplexus), and now it is available as PERPLEXUS through PlaSmart. The manufacturers of Addictaball are not its creator, though they may claim to be. Please visit http://www.superplexus.com to see the history of my art. I request that you not carry or purchase Addictaball. Please do the right thing. I, as the creator, receive nothing from Addictaball. Thank you.

Michael, thank you for your comment, we have never been moved to reply to a request like this before but we urge our readers to check out Michaels site http://www.superplexus.com and we hope as Michael says that you do the right thing. You can purchase The Original Perplexus from the site and it does look very good indeed! :) Also check out the Giant Superplexuses it looks very M C Escher and is quite beautiful.

Michael we wish you and Dan the very best of luck for the future.

Hello Michael,
I have checked out your website and I think you have created a brilliant game…one problem…your website is sold out. Which is a) a mark of how brilliant your game is but b) a problem for people who want to play the game or give it as a gift. Hence Addict-a-ball. I think that it is a shame that you are not being compensated by the company and hope this changes in the future, but they are filling a need where your company is not able. They do not claim to be its creators (http://www.addictaball.com/), word of mouth and availability are pushing the sales of this game and although I understand your position, please understand that people like the concept and want to experience it. I think people tried to buy your version and bought the version that was available, its supply and demand economics. I hope you are able to work something out with addict-a-ball. You should be able to as the patent holder for your idea, I wish you luck, but I received my addict-a-ball as a present and plan to enjoy it till I break it in frustration. Happy Holidays and thank you for your genius.
