CyFi Wireless Sports Speaker

CyFi Wireless Sports Speaker

Listening to your iPod while you’re doing something active (well more active than sitting on the bus) can be a traumatic experience. Fiddling with buttons and jostling the earphones into some semblance of a comfortable position while you’re in transit makes the whole process a bit of a bore for those who can’t exercise without a beat. The CyFi Wireless Sports Speaker makes it as easy as can be no matter your outdoor pursuit of choice. The key to the CyFi is its adaptability – as well as being a companion for your cycling commute it’s great for camping hiking boating… basically most things ending in ‘ing’. It’s the perfect thing for outdoor holidays relaxing round the campfire after a hard day’s trekking or for playing Duran Duran’s Rio while the boom comes overhead (what do you mean you’ve never seen that video?!). It comes with a clamp for fixing it to the handlebars of your bike so that your downhill descent can be suitably soundtracked as well and the sound quality is impressive. Buttons for changing the track and adjusting the volume mean that you don’t have to fiddle with the iPod in your pocket while you’re trundling along. Simply plug the dinky audio transmitter into your iPod press play and let the CD-quality CyFi do its thing. The speaker itself is light enough and small enough to pop in your coat pocket and it has a range of 30 feet (which should be plenty even if you find yourself dislocated from it due to tumbling into a ravine or whatever sporting injuries might befall you). You can sync up to 4 CyFi speakers for especially large groups of like-minded people and then pack it all away in the neat little carry pouch. Charging for 2 hours via USB will give you over 6 hours of listening time. So whatever you spend your outdoor time doing make sure you’ve got the Cy Fi in your pocket to keep the whole experience in tune.

Bicygnals

Bicygnals

Bicygnals you may be forgiven for thinking this is about listening to Lisa Minnelli show tunes in an A&F T shirt but you’d be wrong. They are in fact the cleverest thing to be invented for a bicycle since oh I don’t know handlebars? The reason bicycles have handlebars is because not unsurprisingly you kind of need your hands to steer (which on the whole has nothing to do with American cattle) and handlebars do a pretty good job of it. This is all very logical and seems to have caught on which is good but there is a flaw. When you need to turn left or right you need to let people know which means lifting one hand off your steering wheel (so to speak) and halving your control. Added to this lack of control is the fact that on a busy road with those horrid car things zooming about the only thing to let them know what you’re doing is one frail arm flapping about which at 30mph on a rainy night is more or less invisible to an alert car driver let alone a tired one. Solution indicators! It’s been tried before but the Heath Robinson inventions of the past have been rubbish whereas Bicygnals harness the joy of wireless technology and the coolth (?) of contemporary design. They clip on and off your bike with ease and even clip together and have a carry pouch for when you’re not biked up. A simple flick of your thumb gets both the front and rear signals winking away without a single wire between them. Brilliant concept glorious design simple clean efficient and really rather clever. Keep your hands where you need them and be seen. Features: Wireless indicators and lights for your bike. Lights are detachable and magnetic slotting together into a compact carry case when not in use. Super-bright LED indicator lights at front and rear. Front switches control rear indicators wirelessly. Rear indicators are curved for side visibility. Integrated front and rear reflectors and LED rear and headlights. An option to have the rear and headlight on full beam or a flashing mode. Low battery indicator. Ergonomic and adjustable front and rear clamps. Complies with Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations. Requires 4 x AA Batteries (included) and 4 x AAA Batteries (included). Size: 32 x 9 x 3cm (in bag).

QU-AX Unicycle

QU-AX Unicycle

Unicycling as similar to riding a bicycle as surfing is to carpet bowls. If your sense of balance is more finely tuned than your sense of self-preservation then this is for you. Don’t buy this if you’re scared of a challenge though it’s great fun having a go. The really tricky bit is keeping the six watermelons in the air without your wheel slipping off the tightrope. Unicycling is not easy but then neither is origami and whilst paper folding is very creative and all it doesn’t get the adrenalin pumping or indeed your legs. Half as useful as a bicycle and twice as entertaining it’s a full sized cycle and comes boxed requiring some very elementary assembly. It has a 20inch wheel with aluminium rim a fully adjustable (and very comfy) seat and anti-slip pedals – though they’ll be the least of your problems. The handlebars are of course missing but we gather that’s the point of the whole thing.
